Hey guys, thought I’d give you a little update on life at the moment, and what I’ve been up to this summer…

Outside Devon - Yi-Wo screening

After a 10 year hiatus of film making, Thomas Campbell released his new surf film - Yi-Wo. A handful of locations around the country were set to show the premier of Yi-Wo, one of which was ‘Outside’ - in Bantham, Devon. I’ve wanted to visit outside for sometime having followed them from a far over the past few years. It did not disappoint - a real community hub for the area boasting a kitchen garden, restaurant, surf shop and possibly one of the best skate bowls i’ve seen in a long while. A really great space and an even better film.

I also received a surprise Sea Safari from my gorgeous Mrs for my birthday back in August. Launching from Falmouth, the trip takes you 6 or so miles out to sea to a deep sea ledge in search of all sorts of sealife. After 2 weeks of consistent storms through September I wasn’t massively hopeful of seeing anything - however a small break in the weather meant not only did the trip go ahead, but we were able to see pods of dolphins, Atlantic blue fin tuna, minke whales and a few rare sea birds. It’s easy to forget that we have such an amazing array of wildlife on our doorstep! A super cool trip to break up the norm!

I often get asked what I’m loving in store, at the moment… So, here are my current faves, in no particular order…

Purple Mountain Observatory - new boys on the block, PMO have taken the menswear sphere by storm. Founded back in 2021 with a mission to make technical outerwear and clothing - both functional and fashionable. The advanced funnel neck is my choice - nice layering piece in a great shape.

Pilgrim S+S - It’s a favourite of mine. They just make stuff in shapes I want to wear. Always expertly produced with interesting backstory's of fabric and production to boot - i’m a sucker for a story. The new Salathe NC is an updated version of their classic Salathe trouser shape - longer and wider throughout the leg it’s going to my go to this Winter.

Danner Boots - new to the store, Oregan based footwear brand Danner have been specialising in crafting all terrain footwear for nearly 100 years. Stoked to have them in the store with the new Mountan 600 - goretex, lightweight and built to last. Welcome to the family, Danner.

3 tracks I’ve had on the spin recently… All giving very different things to keep me moving…

Evinha - Esperar pra ver

Lack of Afro - Keeping me Strong

Crook Decker - Silver Spade

A cool place I’ve been…

A new and very warm welcome to Counter Culture - a Spanish inspired small plate restaurant in the heart of Newquay that makes delicious and authentic Spanish cuisine using locally sourced produce - along with dangerously good Margaritas! Also on Sundays they had ‘Shoey’ - local customer and all round legend spinning great vinyl for the afternoons.

And finally, a cool place I want to try next…

Been on my radar for ages now - Plonkd are a wine x pintxos bar based up the coast in Wadebridge. With a growing reputation and a great selection of wines on offer - I feel it could be a nice spot for a cosy evening out now winter has arrived…

Hope you all have an ace half term and have lots of fun stuff planned in with friends and family.

We’re on the build up to Christmas here at R.Place so things feel busy, buzzy and vibrant, with so much good stock in store it’s insane!

Pop by next time you’re passing and say hey. And if you’re further afield, feel free to give us a message if you need any help or advice with fits and sizing…

Until next time…

Joe x
