R.Place x Naughty Nonnas x Damson Madder
Last week, we held a ticket-only event, in collaboration with Supper-Club-Queen, Naughty Nonnas, to celebrate the launch of Damson Madder’s new homeware collection Nonna’s House.
R.Place is an independent, lifestyle-led concept store sitting directly opposite Porth Beach, tucked between Newquay and Watergate Bay on Cornwall's north coast. We are Cornish in location and international in presence; a small shop with a wide reach, welcoming locals stopping in for a coffee and visitors who've travelled from London, New York, Tokyo and Sydney to find us.
Established in 2013, and formerly known as Roo's Beach, R.Place is a carefully curated edit of fashion, homeware, plants and considered everyday things. We have a passion for fabric, fit, style and sustainability, and for the people, places and small rituals that make a life feel well lived.
R.Place began as Roo's Beach in April 2013, opened by founder Roo Cross as a tiny store in Mawgan Porth - a shop selling the things she'd want to take to the beach herself. Unusual brands. Pieces that couldn't be found locally in Cornwall. Things chosen for the values that have always sat at the heart of the company: design, colour, humour, style, and a pleasing aesthetic.
Within months, came our next space here in Porth, just opposite the beach, and that's where everything really began to grow. The new room gave us space to introduce fashion to the mix, and from there the shop kept expanding: more brands, more ideas, more rooms, more reasons to stay a while... Menswear arrived around six years ago, properly hitting its stride when Joe joined the team and brought with him the knowledge and enthusiasm to build something distinct. Today, our menswear edit sits alongside our womenswear as one of the most exciting and forward-thinking selections on the south west coast.
In June 2025, after twelve years as Roo's Beach, we became R.Place.
Nothing inherent has changed. The team, the values, the brands, the welcome; all the same. But the store had outgrown the name. What started as one woman's beach store had quietly become something bigger and more shared: a sense of place, made by everyone who walks through the door. Fashion, homeware, plants, coffee, friends, family, locals, visitors. Ours, not just Roo's.
R.Place is for the future. It gives us room to keep evolving - to introduce new brands, new ideas and new projects without ever losing the feel of the original Roo's Beach.
A considered edit, rather than a packed rail. We choose every brand, every piece and every plant ourselves, and we change things often enough to keep the shop feeling alive.
Womenswear and Menswear - innovative and forward-thinking labels chosen for the way we actually want to dress: relaxed, intentional, with a strong sense of cut, colour and fabric. Pieces designed to be worn, washed, layered and lived in.
Homeware - objects with quiet character. Ceramics, glassware, candles, books, scents, textiles and the small, beautiful things that make a home feel like yours.
Plants - a nod to Roo's roots in floristry and a passion project of our wonderful Penny! Greenery for the windowsill, the hallway, the kitchen table.
Coffee Hut - fresh Origin coffee from Helston, locally sourced cakes, freshly made toasties, hot sausage rolls and somewhere to sit between dips. As much a part of the day as the beach itself.
We don't believe in stocking everything. We believe in stocking the right things. Each season, we travel, research and edit, looking for brands with integrity, makers with a story, and pieces with a thoughtful approach to fabric and longevity. Sustainability isn't a separate column for us; it's part of how we choose, full stop.
We're proud of the brand mix we've built and feel its original, innovative and a little bit unexpected...
R.Place is a store, but it's also somewhere to slow down. Pop in for a coffee and stay for an hour. Browse the rails, repot a houseplant, try something on, ask us where to eat that evening. We share local hotspots, coastal walks, restaurants and small Cornish discoveries through our journal and weekly emails because being part of this place matters to us as much as what we sell.
If you've been with us since the Mawgan Porth days, thank you. If you've just found us, welcome. The view of the beach is the same, the team will still know your name by your second visit, and there's always a fresh pot of Origin on.
Come and find us, opposite Porth Beach.
